We here at EAJ Consulting are very excited about offering you a service of ours, Remote Monitoring. With todays IT departments becoming more dependent on the Windows NT platform, it is becoming harder to find a qualified Unix Systems Administrator within a cost-effective salary range. What is a company to do? Sure, you can send your Windows guru to expensive Unix training courses… Of course after most individuals receive that training, they go to work for another company. Ok, you’ve just spent thousands of dollars training another company’s system administrator. Another more popular choice is to have a Windows system administrator who knows the bare minimum about Unix keep an eye on your Unix Production Server. Basically they are there to dial the phone once the Unix Production Server crashes.

What are the benefits of having EAJ Consulting monitor my Unix server remotely? We will make you aware of potential problems as well as provide suggestions for future growth. Experienced Unix Administrators will be monitoring your server, eliminating your company’s need to send someone to expensive Unix training courses. Your company’s Windows System Administrator will be able to focus more of their time on pressing Windows desktop issues for your local users.

What will EAJ Consulting monitor on my Unix server?

  • The server’s nightly backups
  • Filesystem size and growth
  • Hardware error reports

We are continually looking into more areas to monitor and features to add to this service. Future plans include:

  • E-mail notification for critical errors and filesystem space issues
  • Remote monitoring of Windows NT Servers
  • Remote monitoring of security issues

How often will EAJ Consulting monitor my Unix server? Standard monitoring consists of checking the server on a monthly basis, with a detailed report being sent to you on a quarterly basis. If there are any critical items, or issues requiring immediate attention, you will be notified as soon as possible. The monitoring schedule can be adjusted upon request.
