"Wet sanding & Clean up..."

Notes:

  • As far as the wet sanding / buffing goes...  Originally Joe wasn't going to wet sand before the car was put together, so any scratches that may happen during the final mechanical assembly could be easily taken care of.  Due to the fact that it's easier to wet sand the parts when they are not on the car, the "plan of action" was changed.  The wet sanding will be done (except for midway & up on the fenders) before assembly, the buffing/rubbing out will be done when the car is finished.

  • As far as the tail light lenses, 3M Professional Formula Plastic Cleaner (39017) & Plastic Polish (39010) works great!  The areas where the bezels rub against the lens didn't come out perfect (as if you'll see it anyway!), but the difference overall was night and day.  I was very happy with the outcome.

  • I shipped out the dashboard plastic items to be re-chromed.  They will be gone for 4 to 5 weeks.  Hopefully the dash will be back in 2 to 3 weeks.

What is hopefully going to be accomplished in the next week:

  • More wet sanding.

  • Clean/polish the chrome pieces that I did not replace.  You would be surprised how much original chrome was in good shape (got to love New Mexico!).  The pieces that I did replace really weren't that bad.

Before & after on the tail light lenses... Not to mention the kitchen table is being put to good use again!
(Once again, married men don't try this at home!)
